What is Radio Redentor?

What is Radio Redentor

  • Radio Redentor, Inc. is a non-profit organization registered under the laws of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

  • Founded by missionary Burton Katzelnik, it began operations in May 1974 as the first radio station to offer Christian content in Spanish Puerto Rico.

  • The organization has a Board of Directors made up of representatives from different sectors within the evangelical community of Puerto Rico.

  • Until 2021, it used a single 104.1FM frequency, covering about 90% of the island of Puerto Rico.

  • Its finances come from donations from the audience and the sale of commercial advertising.

    • Over 3,000 people invest in Redeemer with their offerings each year.

    • The necessary technology is invested in to achieve a stable and clear transmission. Today it has four transmitters located in four hills: Mayagüez, Peñuelas, Caguas and the main transmitter in the Sabana Grande neighborhood of Utuado.

  • Established the celebration of the National Day of Christian Music celebrating 7 editions, the last being in 2008 when thousands of Christian music CDs were given away in different parts of the Island between San Juan, Caguas, Manatí and Arecibo.

  • First Christian station to have a News Department (104FM Noticias).

  • First Christian station to provide extensive radio coverage of the election processes for more than 7 consecutive hours in both 2008 and 2012.

  • Precursor media gathering 200,000 people in front of the Capitol of Puerto Rico on February 18, 2013, in defense of Christian faith-based issues.

  • The only Christian radio station with a record attendance of a full house at the Manuel “Petaca” Iguina Coliseum in Arecibo in massive events, starting with the concert Precioso Jesús performed by Esperanza de Vida band and Tercer Cielo duo.

  • Dedicated to serve, educate, and nurture the business class and community leaders.

  • Contributes to other missionaries through fundraising events. Among them are:

    • MIES Foundation and Puerto Rico Bible League - Bibles to Cuba.

    • Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child - Christmas gifts to children in less advantaged communities.

    • Worldwide Christian Ministries and Operation Blessing of the 700 Club on CBN - Installation of water wells in communities in India.

  • In May 2014, celebrated 40th Anniversary of its foundation with a series of events that included:

    • The Great Caravan of Redentor rally around the island on different dates, starting on February 1st in the northern area.

    • 40 Years Gala Banquet on March 1st at the Puerto Rico Convention Center, in benefit of infrastructure and technology development projects.

    • 40 Years Concert on May 31 totally free at the Manuel "Petaca" Iguina Coliseum in Arecibo.

  • In 2017, Redentor was on air with its audience during the passage of hurricanes Irma and María.

    • On September 20, the winds brought by Hurricane Maria knocked down the tower and antenna of our studios in San Juan. Our transmission was interrupted for a day. The next day at 10PM Redentor turned on its transmitter again, being the first FM station to be available, the second station in the entire island to be able to transmit, reconnecting the Center and North of Puerto Rico with the necessary information to manage the crisis.

  • In 2020, after the tremors that shook the entire island, Redentor kept informing the community while serving as a balm with a programming of messages and music full of peace and hope.

  • With the announcement of the worldwide “lock down” in March 2020, Redentor did not stop broadcasting and searching for ways to continue spreading its message. On this occasion, it expanded its offer to social networks and online media and thus continued to present Virtual Concerts with the most recognized ministries among the audience, always fulfilling its vision of making the Gospel of Jesus Christ available to every human being.

  • Always Pioneering in the use of advanced technology from telephones and regular mail to text messaging, social networks, and mobile applications in current times.

  • As of April 1, 2022, it expanded its operations and transmission by adding the 104.3FM frequency that serves St. Thomas and the Virgin Islands and managing to reach the remaining 10% of the island of Puerto Rico.

  • On-air programming has evolved as time has required, climbing audience rating positions to reach a steady place among the top 10 “overall” radio stations in Puerto Rico, according to the most recognized surveys.

    • Today has a mostly musical format with interventions in the form of reflections, news, and informative capsules. In the morning, Pastor Jesús Manuel Torres begins with a Spiritual Breakfast and Straight to the Heart, the most popular segments at that time; Laura Mercado continues from 10AM to 3PM. On the way back home between 3PM and 7PM is Eddie R. Jr. with his iconic phrase “Will be Right Back” accompanied by segments of spiritual impact by Pastor Elizabeth Guidini with Victoria en tu Crisis (Victory in your Crisis) and Para que mi Gente Piense (For My People to Think) by Pastor Rolando Torres.
